QUEER POLY COACH

Hi There!
My name is Jenn DiBartolomeo PsyD, MEd
One of my biggest goals in life is to take the shame out of sexuality. After years of studying psychology and human sexuality, I was surprised to see how much of an undertaking that might be. Despite being a psychologist, a role that hypothetically is supposed to allow people to talk about their deepest struggles and challenges without shame, I quickly discovered how stigmatized sexuality is in the field of psychology. This is where Queer Poly Coach came in. I realized that there is a huge deficit in the mental health world when it comes to talking about sexuality, especially queer sexuality. In fact, as a bisexual polyamorous individual, I have also been on the receiving side of that deficit many times in my life, which is what made me want to create services that challenge this deficit and unlearn the shame around sexuality that the mental health world has long fostered.

Initially, I sought to achieve this goal through doing individual and couple's therapy with queer clients. While I loved my clients and providing a space for them to be their true authentic selves was very empowering, I also found myself getting bogged down by all of the ways in which my queer clients were mistreated and misunderstood in this world. We would often sit in silent commiseration after a client shared an experience about being misgendered or targeted at work for their queerness. I began to feel powerless. While I gave my clients tools for coping with anxiety, depression, and trauma, I felt ineffective in helping them if I couldn't help address the fact that these things unfortunately kept happening- to them and to me. It was then that I decided to switch gears from therapy to coaching. This allowed me to focus on centering queer love, queer joy, and queer success, rather than queer pain and trauma- which there is unfortunately no shortage of. My goal here is to help queer people joyfully and shamelessly pursue their sexuality through love and relationships. Also, by consulting with individuals and organizations, I help to lighten the load of trauma for queer people by creating more queer-educated professionals and queer-friendly workplaces.

So queerdos and allies, let's talk! Whether you need guidance navigating your sexuality and your relationships or you need professional consultation regarding sexuality and gender-based issues, I'm here to help!
